On March  9th  2016 at St David’s Hall a celebration will take place to mark the end of an Intergenerational Storytelling Exchange project.

This arts project has been developed between WAWA Ltd, South Riverside Community Development Centre, Cardiff Institute for the Blind, Kitchener and Ninian Road Primary Schools. It has been funded jointly by these partners and Cardiff Council through their Cultural Projects Scheme.

WAWA Ltd, a Cardiff based Storytelling company, is the creation of Richard Berry and Glenys Evans. They invited storyteller Cath Little and Tactile Artist Lou Lockwood to work with them for this project.

Since last September children have been learning the art of storytelling. Having developed their skills they have told to younger children, parents, visitors from their South Riverside community and people with partial sight and blindness from Cardiff Institute for the Blind.

The cross over between the different participants through storytelling, has led to a greater understanding between, different cultures, old and young, sighted and blind. Sian with her Guide dog Arni has been to Kitchener Primary school. Sian was joined by community elders, to explore with the children, the opportunities that Cardiff Institute for the Blind can offer people.

Sally Holland the Children’s Commissioner for Wales will be joining the children and grown ups of all ages, to exchange tales and celebrate this rewarding and inspiring project.

All partners would like to thank Arts Active director David Baxter at St David’s Hall for use of their wonderful facility.

The project will have a direct and long lasting impact  on the health and wellbeing of all  our pupils and in particular our blind/partially sighted pupils and their families” Ruth Jackson Headteacher Kitchener Road Primary School.
